Fanny Amun Says He Resigned From NFF Committee To Protect Report

Former Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary Fanny Amun says he resigned as chairman of the NFF fact-finding committee soon after submitting its report because he wanted the work protected from outside influence.

Amun said at a briefing in Lagos that he completed the assignment before the two-week deadline and stepped down immediately after handing in the report. The committee was set up on August 17, 2026, after poor results by Nigeria’s national teams, including the Super Falcons’ failed qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

“I did not want anyone to influence the report before I submitted it to the NFF. That was why I submitted it and resigned,” Amun said.

He said the committee examined wider problems in Nigerian football, not only the Super Falcons. Its membership included Ladan Bosso, Desire Oparanozie, Mutiu Adepoju and Alex Mana, with Nasiru Jibril as secretary.

Amun also criticised the NFF electoral rules, saying they should not exempt serving board members from screening. He called for all contestants, including sitting officials, to face checks by the Ethics Committee and financial crime agencies, and said football administrators should be limited to two terms.

He said copies of the report had been sent to the NFF, FIFA, CAF, the National Sports Commission and security agencies. The NFF has not publicly released the committee’s findings.
