Gombe LG Poll Peaceful, Yahaya Says After Casting Vote
Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has described the state’s local government election as peaceful after casting his vote on Saturday.
Daily Trust reported that Yahaya voted at Yahaya Umaru 010 Jekadafari, where he told journalists that voter turnout was impressive.
The governor said voters and election officials had conducted themselves in an orderly manner.
“The turnout is very impressive, and the conduct of both the voters and election managers has been commendable,” Daily Trust quoted him as saying.
Yahaya said the election was progressing smoothly across the state and that collation would begin within hours.
Punch also reported that the governor commended the peaceful conduct of the poll after voting at a polling unit at Government Science Secondary School, Gombe.
He praised security agencies, election officials and other stakeholders for their roles in the exercise.
The governor urged residents to remain peaceful and advised political parties and supporters to accept the outcome or seek legal remedies where necessary.
Punch reported that the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission is conducting elections for council chairmen and councillors across 11 local government areas and 13 development areas.
Yahaya said his administration would continue to support elected council officials to deliver development at the grassroots.
