Nigeria will have to take the long route to the 2027 Women’s World Cup after Cameroon beat the Super Falcons 1-0 in their WAFCON quarter-final.

Nyadjou scored in the 19th minute, and Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina kept Nigeria out with a string of saves as the Super Falcons pushed for an equaliser.

The result ended Nigeria’s WAFCON title defence and sent Cameroon into the semi-finals, where the four teams left in the competition earn direct World Cup places.

Nigeria now drops into the African play-offs with the other defeated quarter-finalists. The winner of that route will still need to go through the inter-confederation play-offs to reach the tournament in Brazil.

Premium Times reported that Cameroon secured a semi-final place with the win in Casablanca, while Vanguard said Nigeria created chances but could not beat Bihina.
