Atiku Tells Tinubu To Sign Audit Service Bill Or Resign

Atiku Abubakar has challenged President Bola Tinubu to act on the Federal Audit Service Bill, saying the President should either sign the bill, formally reject it, or leave office.

The former vice president’s position was announced on Friday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, after months of delay on the bill passed by the National Assembly.

Atiku argued that the Constitution gives a president 30 days to assent to a bill or withhold assent after it is presented, and said the audit bill should not be left unresolved while questions over public finance continue to mount.

The bill is meant to strengthen Nigeria’s audit system, improve the independence of the Auditor-General and tighten oversight of public spending.

Atiku linked the delay to wider concerns about accountability, including the controversy around the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and reported N8.8 trillion in unaccounted expenditure.

He gave Tinubu seven days to comply with the constitutional requirement by either signing the bill or explaining to the National Assembly and Nigerians why he would not assent to it.
