Atiku Formally Submits ADC Presidential Nomination Form, Confirms 2027 Bid
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally submitted his presidential nomination form to the African Democratic Congress, cementing his 2027 presidential ambition on the ADC platform. He submitted Thursday at the party’s Abuja secretariat alongside former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.
Atiku announced the move on his X handle, framing it as part of a broader effort to rebuild the country. “The march to restore prosperity and better days to our beloved nation took a firm and decisive step forward today at the national secretariat of our great party, the African Democratic Congress,” he wrote.
N90 million fee paid
He paid the N90 million nomination fee on May 9, then filed the forms this week. His switch to the ADC comes after he parted ways with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso — both of whom have since moved to the newly registered National Democratic Congress.
“This is more than a political journey; it is a national movement rooted in hope, renewal, and the collective resolve to save Nigeria from despair,” Atiku said. He called on Nigerians across ethnic, religious, and regional lines to back the movement.
The ADC presidential primary is expected later this month, with several other aspirants set to declare. The party has had its own internal headaches — David Mark was briefly removed as national chairman before the Supreme Court restored him, and those tensions haven’t fully resolved.
Crowded field expected
Beyond Atiku and Amaechi, other presidential aspirants are expected to step forward in the ADC. Mark has not said whether he’ll contest. Atiku, for his part, is making his latest run at the presidency after multiple failed bids under the PDP. The Supreme Court dismissed his 2023 election petition against Tinubu in August 2024.
