Troops have rescued nine kidnapped people and recovered 108 farm animals in separate operations in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, the Nigerian Army says.

In an operational account reported on Wednesday, the military said Sector 2 troops of Operation Fansan Yamma responded to a distress call after armed attackers entered communities around Danko.

The nine people freed were handed to the District Head of Unashi to return to their families, according to the military account.

Troops exchanged fire with the attackers, who fled and left two captives behind. The soldiers recovered 34 cows and 74 rams during that operation.

Seven other people were freed in an operation around Sabon Tunga and Binoni villages. The military said they had spent several months in captivity and escaped amid sustained operations against their abductors.

The rescues are separate from the 11 people freed in two Kebbi operations on 30 and 31 October. Those earlier operations involved people seized near Ribah and from farms around Wasagu.

The latest account did not give the date of the operations or say whether any suspects were arrested.
