The Nigerian Army says troops rescued 11 kidnapped people in two operations in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, on 30 and 31 October.

Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, spokesperson for the 8 Division in Sokoto, announced the rescues in a statement on Sunday.

Seven of those freed have been reunited with their families, while the other four were handed to the community head in Wasagu, Osoba said.

In the first operation, soldiers responded to a distress call about attackers blocking a road towards Ribah town and attempting to enter the community.

The troops found that residents had been abducted and motorcycles left behind. Osoba said they pursued the attackers and exchanged fire with them before the attackers fled, leaving seven captives.

In the second operation, troops on patrol around Wasagu came under attack. The military said they repelled the assault and freed four people who had been seized from their farms in the village.

The statement did not say whether anyone was arrested during either operation.
