The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, arrived in Maiduguri on Saturday, October 17, two days after President Bola Tinubu directed security agencies to rescue abducted people across Nigeria.

Shuaibu arrived at about 11am at the headquarters of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, at Maimalari Cantonment in the Borno State capital.

Punch reported that he was expected to meet theatre, field and unit commanders across the state. The newspaper said a connection between the visit and the President’s directive had not been established.

Defence Minister Christopher Musa announced the rescue directive on October 15 after a security meeting chaired by Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He said the President had also ordered security chiefs to dismantle terrorist and bandit camps nationwide.

“There shouldn’t be any camp of any terrorists or bandits anywhere in Nigeria,” Musa said, according to Punch.

NaijaTrend previously reported the rescue order and the President’s election-security instructions here.
