The military says 44 suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters were killed in separate operations in Borno State.
Captain Mohammed Goni, acting military information officer for Operation Hadin Kai, gave the figures in a statement reported on Thursday.
Goni said an air mission hit a suspected improvised explosive device (IED)-laying team, killing eight people and destroying their vehicle, motorcycles and bomb-making materials. He said the strike prevented the team from carrying out its planned activity.
In Kukawa Local Government Area, troops engaged suspected fighters at separate locations on Monday after intelligence reports and surveillance. Goni said the military’s assessment put the toll at 28 killed and six injured.
The command also reported a maritime operation in the Lake Chad area on Wednesday by personnel from Naval Base Lake Chad in Baga. Its preliminary assessment put that toll at eight killed and 10 injured.
The casualty figures are the military’s assessments. The account did not give a date or precise location for the separate air mission.
