Obi, Ameh Urge INEC To Ensure Credible 2027 Polls
Peter Obi and Peter Ameh have asked electoral officials to guarantee credible elections in 2027, while urging voters to protect their ballots from the polling unit until final results are declared.
The appeal was made in Ogugu, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, during a thank-you tour for Ameh after his emergence as the Nigeria Democratic Congress senatorial candidate for Kogi East.
Obi told supporters that campaigns should focus on the problems facing Nigerians, including insecurity, hunger, poverty, children out of school and the cost of living. He said he had stopped to speak with elderly people on his way to Kogi to hear their concerns directly.
He also said the next election should not be reduced to party control or manipulation, adding that votes must be counted and defended by citizens.
Ameh, a former national chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, said the party would continue voter sensitisation across Kogi East and other parts of the country before the polls.
The message adds to early opposition pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general election, with political actors already focusing on voter confidence and result protection.
