House Dissolves All Ad Hoc Committees Over Expired Deadlines

The House of Representatives has dissolved all its ad hoc committees after they failed to finish their assignments and submit reports within the time allowed by the chamber’s rules.

The directive came from Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and was conveyed in a circular signed by the Clerk of the House, Sidi Ibrahim. The dissolution took effect from Friday, August 28, 2026, according to the circular cited by the reports.

The House said the affected committees had earlier been told to conclude their work and submit their reports. Only two committees asked for extra time and received a two-week extension, but that extension had also expired.

The clerk reminded members that ad hoc committees are temporary bodies created for specific, time-limited assignments. He said their continued existence was no longer tenable after they exceeded the time given to them under the Standing Orders.

Members and staff working under the dissolved committees were directed to stop all activity being carried out in the committees’ names.
