Ebonyi PDP Asks Nwifuru To Apologise Or Resign Over Opposition Remarks
The Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State has asked Governor Francis Nwifuru to withdraw his recent comments about opposition politicians, apologise publicly or resign from office.
The party said the governor’s remarks could inflame political tension ahead of the 2027 elections. Its publicity secretary in the state, Darlington Peter-Onwe, made the demand during a radio programme on Friday.
The dispute followed Nwifuru’s comments at Tuesday’s swearing-in of newly elected local government chairmen and deputies in Abakaliki. Reports said the governor dismissed opposition allegations of harassment by the ruling All Progressives Congress and warned council officials not to allow the opposition to win their local government areas in 2027.
Peter-Onwe argued that the remarks were improper for a governor whose office requires him to protect all residents, including political opponents and media workers. The PDP said the comments had already encouraged hostility toward opposition members in the state.
The reports did not include a fresh response from the governor’s camp. The row adds to early political tension in Ebonyi as parties begin positioning for the next general election.
