US Lobbying Firm Raises Tinubu Drug-Trafficking Allegations With Congress

A Washington-based lobbying firm has taken allegations linked to President Bola Tinubu and a United States drug-trafficking records case to members of the US Congress.

The development centres on Freedom of Information Act litigation over US law-enforcement records from the early 1990s. The reports do not say Tinubu has been charged or convicted in the United States over the matter.

Daily Post reported that Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., a Republican policy advisory and lobbying firm, said it contacted members of Congress and senior congressional staff over the allegations after US lawmakers returned to Washington.

The firm said the discussion was linked to a FOIA case and argued that the allegations raised questions for US policymakers on law-enforcement cooperation, intelligence sharing, counter-narcotics work and Nigeria-US relations.

Daily Trust reported that an FBI declaration filed on August 28 before the US District Court for the District of Columbia formed part of a lawsuit seeking access to records relating to Tinubu. The report said the filing described records compiled in furtherance of an investigation involving the FBI and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the early 1990s.

Daily Trust also reported that the case was brought by Aaron Greenspan and that the records sought related to a wider Chicago-based heroin trafficking and money-laundering investigation. It noted that a 2025 court ruling did not find that Tinubu committed an offence and did not amount to a criminal charge or conviction.

The firm involved in the latest lobbying push has been retained by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Daily Trust reported. Tinubu’s team has dismissed claims surrounding the FBI records.
