FG Rules Out Negotiating With Terrorists

The Federal Government says it will not negotiate with terrorists, arguing that Nigeria’s security position is based on defeating violent groups rather than mediating with them.

Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu stated the position on the sidelines of the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Luanda, Angola. Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu at the meeting.

Ojukwu said Nigeria used the gathering to explain its approach to terrorism and regional security. She said the government believes armed groups will respond only to firm security pressure, not appeals to their reason or conscience.

The minister said the summit focused on preventing conflicts, countering violent extremism and strengthening peace efforts across Africa. Nigeria’s delegation, she said, was there to communicate Tinubu’s position that terrorism must be confronted decisively.
