NSCDC Deploys 10,000 Personnel For Osun Governorship Election
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed about 10,000 personnel and tactical units to Osun State ahead of the governorship election.
The deployment covers officers drawn from 10 state commands, including Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Delta and the Federal Capital Territory. The personnel are expected to support the existing Osun command during the poll.
Punch reported the figure as 10,000 personnel, while Vanguard reported 10,210. Both accounts said Commandant-General Ahmed Audi ordered the reinforcement and that the deployment began on Monday.
The NSCDC said uniformed and undercover officers would help secure voters, election officials, observers, journalists and residents across the state’s 30 local government areas.
Specialised units listed for the operation include intelligence, SWAT, female squad, mining marshals, strike force, crack squad and K9 teams. The corps said the teams would support intelligence gathering, crowd control, crime prevention and protection of critical assets.
Deputy Commandant-General in charge of Operations, Ayuba Phillip, and other senior officers are expected to relocate to Osun to supervise the election security operation.
