Osun ALGON Challenges Adeleke’s NURTW Suspension

Osun State ALGON has challenged Governor Ademola Adeleke’s suspension of NURTW activities, arguing that control of motor parks belongs to local government councils.

The intervention adds another turn to the transport-union crisis already covered by NaijaTrend here, after the NURTW national leadership set up a caretaker committee despite the governor’s order.

Vanguard and The Guardian both reported that Osun ALGON chairman Samuel Idowu Abiodun warned the governor against what the association called unconstitutional interference in public motor-park administration.

ALGON cited the Fourth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, arguing that local governments are responsible for establishing, maintaining and regulating public motor parks. The association said the suspension of NURTW activities was null and void and urged security agencies to act within the law.

Adeleke had announced the suspension after an emergency State Security Council meeting, following tension and factional clashes around motor parks in Osogbo, Ilesa, Ife and other towns. ALGON said the government’s response came after council chairmen had already met transport-union leaders.
