Senate Seeks Security Deployment After Benue Killings

The Senate has asked security agencies to deploy immediately to affected Benue communities after renewed killings in Akpachi-Ugboju, Otukpo-Nobi and Ondo Ugboju.

The resolution followed a motion by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro on the attacks in Otukpo Local Government Area. The development follows NaijaTrend’s earlier report on the Benue attacks here.

Premium Times reported that the Senate observed a minute of silence for victims and urged the inspector-general of police, the chief of army staff and other security agencies to restore normalcy, protect lives and prevent more attacks.

The Senate also asked the police to investigate the attacks, arrest the perpetrators and ensure prosecution. It urged the National Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to provide food, medical supplies and temporary shelter for displaced residents.

Daily Post separately reported that Peter Obi condemned the latest violence in Benue and Plateau, including reported killings in Otukpo-Nobi and Riyom. His statement called for a security approach driven by intelligence, faster response and accountability.
