NURTW Sets Up Osun Caretaker Committee Despite Adeleke Suspension

The National Union of Road Transport Workers has set up a seven-member caretaker committee for its Osun State chapter, despite Governor Ademola Adeleke’s suspension of the union’s activities in motor parks across the state.

The committee was inaugurated on Friday at the union’s national headquarters in Garki, Abuja, with Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, named as chairman.

The move followed the Osun government’s order suspending NURTW activities and levy collection in motor parks after violent clashes between rival factions in Osogbo. The state government also directed security agencies to arrest anyone parading as a union official in the parks.

Punch reported that the union rejected the suspension and argued that the governor lacked the constitutional power to stop its operations. Daily Trust also reported the inauguration of the caretaker committee and linked it to the governor’s suspension order.

The dispute is the latest turn in the leadership crisis involving factions loyal to Oyewale and the state NURTW chairman, Nurudeen Alowonle. The state government has said the suspension was meant to restore order and strengthen public security.
