Senate Passes Bill Proposing ₦50,000 Fine For Hawking, Preaching In Commercial Vehicles

The Senate has passed a bill proposing a ₦50,000 fine for hawking or preaching inside commercial vehicles as part of changes to the Federal Road Safety Corps Act.

The bill also raises several traffic penalties and gives the FRSC wider enforcement powers. Reports said the Senate passed the measure after considering amendments aimed at updating road safety rules and deterring conduct considered unsafe inside public transport vehicles.

Daily Post reported the proposed ₦50,000 fine for hawking and preaching in commercial vehicles, while Vanguard reported that the Senate raised traffic fines by about 300 per cent under the FRSC Act changes.

Supporters of the bill argued that the changes would strengthen road safety enforcement. The measure still needs to complete the full legislative process before the new penalties can take effect.
