Okonkwo Says Obi ADC Exit Left South-East Disadvantaged

Kenneth Okonkwo says Peter Obi’s exit from the African Democratic Congress left the South-East politically disadvantaged and confused ahead of the 2027 elections.

Okonkwo, who was described in the reports as a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s ADC presidential campaign, made the comment during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.

He argued that the South-East had a stronger claim in the party before Obi left, and said the exit affected the region’s position in the contest. Daily Post reported that Okonkwo made the remarks while responding to questions about Rotimi Amaechi and the vice-presidential ticket.

Vanguard also reported Okonkwo’s comments, saying he described Obi’s departure from the ADC as unceremonious and said it left the South-East at a disadvantage.

Obi has remained a central figure in opposition politics since the last general election, and his positioning ahead of 2027 continues to shape debate within and outside coalition platforms.
