Keyamo Asks Peter Obi To Apologise, Pay N25,000 Airport Parking Fine

Festus Keyamo has asked Peter Obi to apologise to airport officials and pay a N25,000 fine after CCTV footage, according to the aviation minister, showed that Obi’s vehicle was left unattended in a drop-off zone at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The dispute followed Obi’s claim that his vehicle was unfairly clamped at the airport. Keyamo said he ordered an internal inquiry after the allegation, and that the footage did not support Obi’s account.

The minister said the vehicle arrived at the domestic terminal on July 4, 2026, around 8:28 p.m. He said Obi and two other occupants were dropped off before the police officer driving the vehicle parked in the drop-off area and entered the terminal.

Keyamo said the driver briefly returned to the vehicle, then left it unattended again, after which airport security officials clamped the tyres. He said the car stayed in the zone for about 30 minutes, against airport rules.

He asked Obi to make a public apology to the airport officials and pay the N25,000 penalty within one week. He warned that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria could take further action if the fine was not paid.

Obi had linked the incident to what he described as political pressure against him. Keyamo rejected that claim, saying the matter was about airport rules, not politics.
