APC First-Term Governors Back Tinubu For 2027 After Kebbi Meeting
First-term governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have backed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid after a meeting in Kebbi State.
The governors also endorsed the continuation of the Renewed Hope Agenda beyond 2027 and said the party needed to stay focused on economic reforms, security and internal unity.
The position was contained in a communiqué presented on Tuesday by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris after the meeting in Birnin Kebbi. Punch, Premium Times and Daily Post all reported that the governors tied their support to Tinubu’s economic programme and the APC’s plans for the next election cycle.
The meeting brought together 21 first-term APC governors, according to Daily Trust. The outlet reported that security concerns, the fallout of party primaries and preparations for 2027 were among the issues around the closed-door talks.
Daily Post reported that the governors acknowledged the pressure Nigerians are facing from the economy, but said the reforms were necessary. They also expressed concern over insecurity and called for stronger action to protect communities.
The endorsement adds another organised bloc of support for Tinubu inside the ruling party as political actors begin to position themselves for the next general election.
