Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has challenged Rotimi Amaechi’s record in public office, asking leaders of Evo Kingdom to identify the projects and political opportunities his predecessor brought to their communities.
Wike made the remarks at an interactive session with leaders and traditional rulers in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. He argued that leadership should be judged by the people empowered and the projects and institutions left behind, rather than the positions a politician has held.
Channels Television identified Amaechi as the target of the criticism. Wike described his rival’s time as Speaker of the state House of Assembly, governor and minister as eight years in each office, totalling 24 years. He accused Amaechi of failing to bring development or raise new leaders in the area.
The minister contrasted that record with his own, saying he could name projects he brought to Rivers State while serving as Minister of State for Education. He also criticised politicians who, after rising to high office, resist helping others reach similar positions.
Wike said he had no further personal political ambitions after serving as governor and minister. He said his priority was to support his people and help build leadership that could continue existing programmes after he left office.
He warned against political structures dependent on one individual, arguing that leaders should prepare successors rather than leave a structure that collapses when they are no longer present.
Wike reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu. Traditional and political leaders at the meeting, including Eze Temple Ejekwu and Evo Assembly President Elder Peter Chinwo, pledged support for Tinubu and other candidates endorsed by the Rainbow Coalition.
