Wike Approves Okada, Keke Restrictions In Abuja Over Security Concerns

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has approved restrictions on commercial motorcycles and tricycles in parts of Abuja, saying security reports linked their use to crime risks in the city.

Wike said the decision followed a meeting of the FCT security council and that security agencies had been directed to map out areas where Okada and Keke Napep operations would no longer be allowed.

He said the administration would not impose a blanket ban across the whole territory, but insisted the vehicles would not be allowed in parts of the city centre where officials consider them a security concern.

Channels TV, Punch, Vanguard and Daily Post all reported the same monthly media chat, with Wike saying the measure was tied to security intelligence and not only traffic nuisance.

The minister also said the administration was considering logistics for action against street begging and destitution in the capital, but the immediate transport decision centres on restricting motorcycles and tricycles in selected areas.
