Uzodimma says security concerns limited information on abducted corps members
Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma says his government limited the information it released about 20 abducted prospective corps members because public disclosure could have put their safety and the investigation at risk.
In a statement issued on Wednesday after their release, he said the government had deliberately used a discreet, coordinated approach because the case involved people’s lives.
Premium Times reported the explanation. The governor praised the security agencies’ cooperation and thanked the parents and families for their patience during the abduction.
The prospective National Youth Service Corps members were abducted at about 6:30 a.m. on October 1 near Umunoha on the Owerri-Onitsha Road. They were travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states.
They were freed on Wednesday after an operation involving the State Security Service, military personnel and police. NaijaTrend reported their release and medical care here.
