Kano Assembly plans State Police Bill second reading for October 12
The Kano State House of Assembly plans to take the State Police Bill to second reading on October 12, 2026, after lawmakers complete their individual reviews.
Copies have been circulated to members to study the provisions and suggest changes. The bill has already been read on the floor of the House during a recent plenary session.
Kamaluddeen Shawai, Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Jibril Falgore, announced the progress in a statement on Friday.
The proposal forms part of the constitutional amendment process to allow states to establish their own police forces. The State Police Constitution Amendment Bill was transmitted to the 36 state Houses of Assembly on September 16, 2026.
Falgore said the Assembly was committed to addressing security challenges. He described Kano as relatively peaceful and said legislation was needed to sustain the state’s security system.
