UNIOSUN Rejects Army Response To Assault Claims, Begins Legal Action

Osun State University has rejected parts of the Nigerian Army’s response to sexual assault allegations involving military personnel and members of the university community, saying it has instructed lawyers to begin legal proceedings.

Daily Post and Punch reported that the university welcomed the Army’s Board of Inquiry but objected to any expectation that alleged victims should report directly to the same institution whose personnel are accused. UNIOSUN spokesperson Ademola Adesoji said such a process could deepen trauma, fear and intimidation for survivors.

The university also rejected any suggestion that it should disclose affected students’ identities or compel them to appear before military authorities. It said investigations should be victim-centred, independent, transparent and capable of inspiring public confidence.
