The arraignment of three suspects accused of murdering Federal Road Safety Corps officer Funmilayo Lasisi and her daughter, Adesewa, could not proceed at the Osun State High Court in Osogbo on Monday because no lawyer appeared for the defence.

Justice Yinka Aderibigbe adjourned the case until December 8, 2026, for the defendants to enter their pleas and for a possible hearing. The judge directed that they must have legal representation at the next sitting.

Fajemirokun Victor and two other defendants were brought to court by officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service. They had previously appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged killings, according to Punch and Daily Post.

Prosecutor Muyiwa Ogunleye, an Assistant Director at the Osun State Ministry of Justice, told the court that the prosecution had also not served the defendants with copies of the court processes. He said the documents would be served before the next sitting.

Speaking after the proceedings, Ogunleye said legal representation was compulsory because the defendants faced a capital charge.

Ogunleye said he had assigned a colleague to deliver the charge documents and hearing notice to the correctional facility in Ilesa on Tuesday, October 13.

The prosecution has lined up eight witnesses, comprising four police officers and four civilians, Ogunleye said. It intends to begin presenting its case at the next sitting.
