Troops rescue six FUDMA students and driver in Katsina

Troops and police have rescued six female students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma and a commercial driver after kidnappers attacked their vehicle in Katsina State.

The rescue happened on Monday evening along the Daye-Malumfashi road in Danmusa Local Government Area after troops responded to a distress call about an attack on a vehicle travelling from Kaduna to Katsina.

Channels Television reported that troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, reached the scene quickly, forcing the kidnappers to abandon the victims and flee. The six students and the driver were rescued unhurt.

Daily Post reported the same rescue as involving seven victims: six female students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma and the driver, identified as Sani Umar. It said the operation took place at about 11:45 p.m. on September 21, 2026, when security forces intercepted a green Volkswagen Golf 3 with registration number Kano BCH-528ZY.

The victims were taken for preliminary security profiling and medical checks before being handed over to officials for reunion with their families and the university authorities.

The military said Operation Fansan Yamma was continuing security operations across the area to protect communities and rescue kidnapping victims.
