Troops Rescue Construction Workers After Bandit Attack In Kebbi

Nigerian Army troops have rescued construction workers after suspected bandits attacked their work site at Tsatsunbe village in Southern Kebbi State.

The attack happened on Friday, August 14. Reports from Vanguard, Daily Post and Punch said the troops moved in after a tip-off, forced the attackers to withdraw and later escorted the workers back to their camp.

Vanguard and Punch attributed the army account to Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, spokesman for the 8 Division, Nigerian Army. Daily Post reported the same operation under Operation Clean Sweep IV.

The soldiers recovered three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing attackers. No casualty was reported among the construction workers, who had taken refuge in nearby bushes during the attack.

The army said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to protect communities, workers and critical infrastructure from armed groups in the area.

The Kebbi incident adds to a pattern of attacks on rural communities and work sites in parts of the North West, where troops have been responding to bandit movements and attempted raids.
