Troops Rescue 92 Kidnapped Civilians in Borno, Detonate IEDs During Operations
Mass Rescue
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 92 civilians abducted by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. The rescued include 52 males, 33 females, and 7 children.
The military said troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion deployed at Dutse Kura spotted the insurgents at about 11:22 am on Saturday, forcing civilians and vehicles off the road into nearby bush paths. A Quick Reaction Force was deployed, with reinforcements from the 27 Task Force Brigade mobilised to support the operation.
During the pursuit, troops recovered eight vehicles and detonated three improvised explosive devices planted by the fleeing insurgents along the escape route. The operation was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI.
Ongoing Campaign
The Buratai–Kamuya road has been a hotspot for insurgent activity lately. Saturday’s rescue is one of the largest single operations to free abducted civilians in Borno this year.
As of Sunday morning, the military said mop-up operations were continuing in the area.
