Tinubu warns police against partisan conduct before 2027 elections
President Bola Tinubu has warned the Nigeria Police Force against partisan conduct as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.
The warning was delivered on Monday at the 2026 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Owerri, Imo State, where Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume represented the President.
Tinubu said Nigerians must be able to trust the police regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, religion, social status or location. He said the 2027 elections would require careful preparation, intelligence-led operations and coordination among security and electoral stakeholders.
He also linked election security to the safety of voters, electoral officials, materials and campaign activities. The President said the Federal Government would continue to support police reforms through investment in personnel, training, technology and intelligence systems.
