Tinubu Urges Team Nigeria To Win Clean At 2026 Commonwealth Games

President Bola Tinubu has urged Team Nigeria to compete with discipline and protect the country’s reputation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The charge was delivered during a presidential send-off at the State House, Abuja, where the Nigerian contingent was reminded that medals should come through fair competition and respect for anti-doping rules.
Tinubu, represented by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, told the athletes to go to Glasgow with confidence, unity and patriotism. Channels TV quoted him as saying that winning was important but “winning clean is more important”.
The 72-member contingent will compete in 10 sports at the Games, which are scheduled for July 23 to August 2.
The president also pointed to the Nigerian Anti-Doping Act and the inauguration of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Centre board as part of efforts to strengthen clean sport.
National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko led the delegation to the Villa, while the commission also unveiled PUMA as Team Nigeria’s official kit partner.
