Samson Adamu has been confirmed as general secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following a period in an acting capacity.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said in a statement on Friday that his confirmation took place on Thursday.

Adamu is the first Nigerian to hold the position, according to the federation. He had been acting general secretary since 29 March, after the resignation of Veron Mosengo-Omba.

Before taking the acting appointment, Adamu served as CAF’s director of competitions and later as director of tournaments and events.

“The NFF is delighted and very pleased with this appointment, and we will give him all the necessary support as a Member Association under CAF,” Acting NFF General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme said.

The NFF statement did not give a term length for the appointment.
