President Bola Tinubu summoned National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa to an emergency meeting at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, ordering decisive action to end the escalating killings in Plateau, Benue, and other states.

The two security chiefs arrived at the Villa around 3pm and went straight into the closed-door meeting with the president, who returned from a trip abroad just a day earlier.

200 Killed in Three Weeks

No fewer than 200 people have been killed in the past three weeks in renewed attacks on communities in Plateau and Benue, with no arrests made for the crimes. The mounting death toll has drawn sharp criticism from lawmakers, civil society groups, and affected communities.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has attributed the attacks to “foreigners” who do not speak the languages of the affected communities, though security agencies have not confirmed this claim.

Orders for Decisive Action

According to sources familiar with the meeting, Tinubu directed the security chiefs to produce a comprehensive plan for halting the violence and preventing further civilian casualties. The meeting followed reports that troops had foiled an attempted mob attack on an NSCDC outpost in Plateau just a day earlier.

The emergency consultation signals growing urgency in the presidency over a security crisis that has become the single biggest political liability for the administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
