Nine Family Members, Baby Killed In Fresh Plateau Attack

A fresh attack in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has left members of the same family dead, including a two-month-old baby, according to accounts from community representatives reported on Sunday.

The attack was reported in Wereng-Camp and Kum communities. Daily Post said local Berom youth leaders put the toll at 10 family members, while Vanguard reported nine family members killed and said the village head was badly injured.

The accounts said the gunmen stormed the community late on Saturday night and the violence continued into the early hours of Sunday before the attackers fled towards nearby rocks and bushes.

Vanguard reported that security agencies had been notified and that personnel were later deployed to the affected communities. Residents were said to be displaced and worried about another attack.

Efforts by Vanguard to get official confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command were not successful at the time of its report. The casualty figures are therefore being reported as given by the community sources cited by the outlets.
