Former Plateau Councillor Killed In Riyom Community Attack
A former councillor in Plateau State, Daniel Danjuma Chong, has been killed after gunmen attacked Torok village in Rim community, Riyom Local Government Area.
Chong, popularly known as Hon. Star, represented Rim Ward. The attack happened late on Sunday night, with residents and the Berom Youth Moulders Association saying the gunmen opened fire in the community before fleeing.
The reports agree on the victim’s identity, the Rim/Riyom location and the Sunday-night attack. Punch and Vanguard put the time at about 11:45 p.m., while Daily Trust, citing the youth group, put it at about 10:45 p.m.
A resident named Cynitha Dung told the outlets that people ran for safety after hearing sustained gunfire. Another resident, David Dachollom Danjuma, was reported injured during the attack and was receiving treatment.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association condemned the killing and asked security agencies and the Plateau State Government to arrest those responsible. Daily Trust reported that the Plateau police spokesperson had not responded to an inquiry at the time of its report.
