Former Bayelsa governor Timipre Sylva has resigned from the All Progressives Congress as he faces reports linking him to an alleged coup-plot investigation.

Sylva, a former minister of state for petroleum resources, said Nigerians would vote against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party in 2027.

The reports said his resignation came after security agencies declared him wanted over the alleged coup-plot matter. Sylva has previously denied wrongdoing and accused political opponents of using security claims against him.

His exit adds another strain to APC politics in Bayelsa and the wider South-South, where party alignments have continued to shift ahead of the next general election.
