The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to refer allegations that N6.3 billion in constituency project funds may have been diverted to anti-corruption agencies for investigation.

Vanguard reported that SERAP made the demand in a letter dated June 27, 2026, signed by its deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare.

SERAP said the allegations are documented in the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2022 annual report, published on September 9, 2025.

The group urged Akpabio and Abbas to ensure that anyone found responsible is prosecuted where there is sufficient admissible evidence, and that any diverted funds are fully recovered and remitted to the treasury.

SERAP also called for the full disclosure of the names of contractors and companies, including their shareholders and beneficial owners, that received constituency project funds but failed to execute the projects.

Vanguard reported that the allegations involve several federal ministries, departments and agencies, including the Environmental Health Registration Council of Nigeria, the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, the Federal Polytechnic, Udana, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, and the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies.

SERAP said the National Assembly has a responsibility to curb corruption in constituency funds but can only do so if it demonstrates exemplary leadership by probing the allegations involving projects approved by the lawmakers themselves.

The group gave the National Assembly leadership seven days to act, failing which it said it would take all appropriate legal actions to compel compliance.

Punch also reported the SERAP demand.
