Army Arrests Three Suspected Gun Runners, Rescues Six In Zamfara

Troops of 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have arrested three suspected gun runners in Zamfara State and rescued six people from a separate terrorist attack, according to matching reports on the Army’s Monday statement.

The arrests were made around 2:05pm on Sunday during a stop-and-search operation on the Kauran Namoda-Shinkafi Road. The suspects were named as Lukman Sulaiman, 20, Nafiu Isa, 18, and Adamu Lawali, 60, the driver of the vehicle.

The Army said troops recovered one AK-103-2 rifle, one magazine and 30 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition concealed in a bag of millet inside a Golf Wagon with registration number BMJ-143AA. The suspects, weapon, ammunition and vehicle were taken into custody for further investigation.

In a separate operation around 2:30pm, troops at Forward Operating Base Anka responded after surveillance cameras detected an attack on a vehicle at Gadan Manya along the Anka-Gummi route. The soldiers engaged the attackers as they tried to force the occupants into the bush.

Six victims were rescued and taken to General Hospital, Anka. Punch reported that three of them sustained minor injuries and were in stable condition.
