The Senate has postponed its National Security Summit scheduled for October 12 and 13 until further notice following Monday’s Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

A new date has not been announced. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, who chairs the ad hoc committee organising the summit, announced the decision in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

Bamidele said the summit was deferred in honour of the crash victims and in line with the three days of national mourning declared by President Bola Tinubu.

The committee had completed preparations following zonal public hearings. The planned national gathering was intended to examine Nigeria’s security challenges and propose measures to protect lives and property, according to the Senate statement reported by Punch.

The Air Force aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area. NaijaTrend reported the Air Force’s official list of victims here.

The Senate extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Armed Forces and the president. Bamidele said a revised summit date would be communicated later and asked expected participants to bear with the organisers during the mourning period.
