The Presidency says President Bola Tinubu is “hale and hearty” and will return to Nigeria this week after missing an earlier weekend return timeline.
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London on what officials described as annual leave, later travelled to Paris, and had been expected back after the Presidency announced on September 21 that he had extended his stay abroad by a few days.
Premium Times reported that Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu had continued to perform his duties from abroad and did not need to be physically present in Abuja to work.
Daily Post reported that Onanuga also criticised Peter Obi over comments on Tinubu’s whereabouts, saying the former Anambra governor was pretending not to know where the President was.
Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York has drawn political criticism, although the Presidency said he remained on a working vacation and would be back in the country during the week.
