Tinubu extends working vacation, sets weekend return

President Bola Tinubu has extended his working vacation in Europe by a few days and is now expected back in Nigeria at the weekend, the Presidency said on Monday.

Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London before travelling to Paris, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré.

Presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga said the President had remained in touch with developments at home and continued to direct government affairs while away. The statement also cited his order for an independent panel to investigate the deaths of 37 illegal miners after they were detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Vice President Kashim Shettima left Abuja on September 20 for New York to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The Presidency said Shettima would present Nigeria’s national statement, while Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume would continue to represent Tinubu at official events at home.
