Presidency Accuses Peter Obi Of Building Movement Of Political Extremists
The Presidency has accused Peter Obi of encouraging what it described as a movement of political extremists, in a fresh exchange ahead of the 2027 race.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, made the comments during an interview on TVC’s Politics on Sunday. Vanguard and Daily Post both reported the remarks on Monday.
Bwala accused the former Anambra governor of failing to take responsibility for the conduct of some of his supporters. He said media houses often seek his reaction after Obi’s supporters make comments online, and rejected suggestions that he was fixated on Obi.
According to Vanguard, Bwala said Obi was building a movement that he compared to banditry, before clarifying that he meant political extremism. Daily Post reported that he also argued Obi was not a political threat to Tinubu.
The presidential aide cited the online criticism of an Obi supporter who met Seyi Tinubu as one example of what he considered intolerance within the movement. He accused Obi of distancing himself from the behaviour of supporters whenever criticism followed.
The comments are allegations from the Presidency’s side of the political divide. Obi or his media team had not issued a fresh response to Bwala’s latest remarks in the published accounts checked for this story.
