ADC Demands Arrests After Attack On Supporters In Kaduna

The African Democratic Congress has asked security agencies to arrest those behind an attack on its supporters in Kaduna State as political activity ahead of the 2027 elections begins to build.

The party said its members were attacked during a solidarity walk for its Kaduna governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru, around Murtala Square in the state capital.

Premium Times reported that tension broke out when security operatives and ADC supporters clashed during the gathering. The ADC alleged that security operatives and political thugs disrupted what it described as a peaceful event, while a government official said police acted to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party warned that political violence could damage the 2027 electoral process. Daily Post and Punch also reported the party’s call for those responsible and their sponsors to be identified, arrested and prosecuted.

The ADC urged the Kaduna State Government to protect opposition parties and allow them to campaign freely. It said intimidation would not stop it from organising and competing across the state.
