Police rescue two abducted victims after gun battle in Niger
Police in Niger State say two people abducted from Wako village near New-Bussa have been rescued unhurt after a gun battle with suspected kidnappers.
The state police command said the case began on September 10 when armed men took two residents from the village and demanded ransom. A surveillance team from the New-Bussa Area Command later moved into Wawa forest with vigilante members for a rescue operation.
During the operation, the team intercepted the suspected kidnappers and exchanged fire with them. Police said three suspects were killed, while other members of the group escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.
The rescued victims were debriefed after the operation, and the command said investigation into the incident is continuing.
The account was attributed to the command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun. Premium Times also reported that the same police statement announced separate arrests and recoveries in theft and fraud cases, but the rescue operation was the main development in the New-Bussa incident.
