Police say six farmers abducted while working in Mahangi village, near Pandogari in Rafi Local Government Area, Niger State, were rescued during a joint security operation on Thursday.
The Niger State Police Command said in a statement reported on Sunday that security personnel traced the abductors to their hideout after the farmers were seized.
The operation involved police, soldiers, Department of State Services (DSS) personnel, special hunters and local vigilantes.
Police said the six people were taken to the local division for profiling. AIT’s account of the statement says this was ahead of a reunion with their families; Daily Post’s account says they had been reunited.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna is investigating the abduction. The reports of the statement do not say whether any suspects have been arrested.
