Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Alleged Ekiti Kidnap Plot

Police in Ekiti say they have stopped a planned kidnap operation and arrested two suspects after an intelligence-led operation in the state.

The suspects were identified as Mumini Muhammed, 23, and Kehinde Oseni, 22. Police said they were arrested on July 4 in a forest around the Are-Afao Road and Ayede-Ekiti axis.

The operation involved the Violent Crime Response Unit, officers from the Ayede-Ekiti Divisional Police Headquarters and local vigilantes, according to the accounts reviewed by NaijaTrend.

Police spokesperson Sunday Abutu said early investigation showed that the suspects had allegedly planned to kidnap a resident of Ayede-Ekiti before they were intercepted.

The command also said the two men were arrested while trying to sell two stolen cows for N1.5 million. The money was allegedly meant to finance the planned kidnapping.

Abutu said the suspects had made statements to investigators and that efforts were continuing to arrest other members of the gang and recover firearms and other weapons allegedly in their possession.

The cattle owner has been identified and the animals have been released, police said. The suspects are expected to be charged after investigation is completed.

Commissioner of Police Michael Falade urged residents to keep giving the command useful information as it continues operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
