African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore says he and his associates were attacked in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Friday, rejecting the police description of an altercation.

Sowore challenged the Ekiti State Police Command’s account in a post on X, saying officers had downplayed the violence and the injuries sustained by those involved.

The police said they took Sowore to the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti after responding to an incident at a restaurant in the Dalimore area. The command described his injury as minor.

Police spokesperson Sunday Abutu said preliminary information indicated that Sowore had an altercation with some individuals before officers intervened. The command denied an earlier claim that armed men had kidnapped him.

Sowore rejected that explanation, saying he and his associates had been attacked rather than involved in an altercation. He said the police commissioner had seen the aftermath and was aware of the injuries.

The command said the commissioner had ordered an investigation to establish what happened and identify those involved. The police statement did not identify anyone responsible.
