Plateau Police Warn Residents Against Unapproved Drone Operations

Plateau Police have warned residents, companies and other groups not to fly drones in the state without the required approval.

The command said people who operate drones illegally risk arrest, confiscation of their equipment and prosecution. The warning covers private and corporate drone use across Plateau State.

Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo said the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority remains the agency responsible for issuing permits and approvals for drone operations in Nigeria.

The police notice referred to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations 2023, including rules on remotely piloted aircraft systems. Operators are expected to secure approval, submit a security programme and provide details of planned flight locations, schedules and safety measures before flying.

The command said drones must not be used for unlawful activity, including transporting unauthorised cargo, weapons or explosives, or carrying out surveillance that could endanger public safety.

The warning comes as security agencies continue to tighten controls around sensitive locations and critical infrastructure in Plateau State.
